Hiroshima remembers the first atomic
bomb, is it the last? 60 years ago the very first atomic bomb was used on Hiroshima, followed by a second on Nagasaki three days later. Around 250,000 people were killed and are still dying as a result of this attack. It is believed that 140,000 people were killed instantly (or died shortly afterwards) following the bomb dropped over the city of Hiroshima by the Enola Gay. Those close to the explosion would have seen a bright flash of light just before their bodies melted or burnt. And many of those lucky enough to survive the initial explosion, died later from radiation or cancers. Many justify the attack by saying that it brought a quicker end to the war, but can such an horrific weapon ever be justified? Whilst we hope that such a weapon is never used again, sadly some still consider using it. It is rumoured that the U.S. have considered the use of nuclear weapons on Iran and plans have been drawn up just in case. We find it somewhat ironic that the United States is the leader in telling others that they can't have such weapons, and worry that a country like Iran may obtain them. Yet the U.S. is the only country ever to use them in a war and perhaps is the only country considering using them again!
We suspect that the latter is true and sadly believe that these weapons will be used again, and quite soon. Unfortunately, we have ourselves to blame for allowing the wrong people to obtain power and not doing anything about it when we discover our mistake. But wasn't that how World War Two began?
