Wildfires - "The day the Earth
caught Fire"
In the film, nuclear devices, detonated by the United States and the then Soviet Union, caused the orbit of the Earth to alter and sent the planet hurtling towards the sun. Whilst nuclear devices haven't created these present Wildfires (at least not yet!) and our planet is not racing towards the Sun, there is no doubt that the effects of Global Warming are playing some part in all of this. Some parts of Europe are experiencing record temperatures and there have been an unusually high number of droughts of late. Unfortunately, these exceptional conditions, which could get much worse, are stretching the firefighting resources beyond their limits. Yet despite this obvious lack of equipment and manpower, governments are still resisting help from outside sources. Global Emergency Response could provide some extra assistance with these increased fires and help overcome this current gap in resources.
Governments need to decide quickly whether to increase their current firefighting facilities, request the help of Global Emergency Response, or continue to let fires take control and see the loss in lives increase still further. Temperatures are continuing to rise and this problem is not likely to go away in the near future. We must accept that Global Warming is going to change our lives very much over the next few years and prepare ourselves the best we can. Thinking ahead is the best option, but using whatever you can in the meantime is a sensible choice for the present. News Feed
