San Francisco explosion not terrorist
attack
(19.08.2005)
An explosion that shook San Francisco's central financial district
today, was caused by an underground electric transformer.
The explosion blew a manhole up into the air and across the street,
dislodging parts of the pavement as well.
Flames
were seen on the awning of the Ralph Lauren store and one witness
described the explosion like a "truck hit the building".
A number of windows were also blown out in the blast.
The blast seemed to come from an underground electrical vault,
but it is not certain what caused the explosion yet.
Earlier reports feared that the explosion was the work of terrorists,
but this seems unlikely now. An Investigation into the blast has begun,
to try and find out the cause.
