Bush makes pro-war speech to sympathetic
supporters Bush, who has found it impossible to spare a few minutes for Cindy Sheehan, managed to find time to break away from his "vacation" to give a pro-war speech to the 106th Veterans of Foreign Wars' national convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. This was the first of two speeches that Bush will make before returning to his ranch to complete his vacation. It was perhaps no surprise that he chose to make his first speech in Utah, where he received strong support from the voters in the election last November and that the audience were sympathetic to his cause. It has become something of a trademark for the Bush administration to carefully select who the audience are for Bush's speeches. Bush repeated the same old tired quotes that he normally does in his speeches, and to a group that are guaranteed to cheer him no matter what he says. Isn't it strange how you can read so much more from his messages than he really intends. He said "Our enemy, the terrorists, are ruthless and brutal. They're fighting on behalf of a hateful ideology that despises everything America stands for". Just to make sure that you don't confuse the "enemy" with someone else (the government perhaps?), he feels it is necessary to confirm that the enemy are "terrorists". Bush continued by saying that the "enemy" have a strategy and "part of that strategy is to try and shake our will" (more of the will shaking routine!). Again, to try and get global support he adds "In all their objectives our enemies are trying to intimidate America and the free world" But perhaps the most worrying part of the speech was his comment "America will not wait to be attacked again, we will go on the offense and we will defend our freedom". If you tie this up with his earlier comment that military action could not be ruled out against Iran, you effectively have confirmation that the plan is to attack Iran.
Unfortunately, the Bush administration will not let Bush give a speech to people who do not share the governments views (like Cindy Sheehan for example), because quite frankly he would be eaten alive! Maybe, when the President discovers his b***s and finds the courage to talk to real people, the country might take him more seriously. But don't hold your breath on that one.
