Where were the Pro-War supporters
before Cindy Sheehan?
(28.08.2005)
Before Cindy Sheehan set up camp near Bush's ranch in Texas, how
many pro-war supporters did you see walking around with placards saying
"We support the war in Iraq"?
Why is it that some pro-Bush supporters only feel it is necessary
to display their support in this manner, when their leader is under
attack? Do they really believe that the war in Iraq is justified,
or is it just some instinctive reaction they make whenever someone
dares to criticize his policies?
Those who have criticized Bush know the answer to this of course
and know exactly what to expect from the shepherd's flock. Their response
is always predictable and usually agressive and crude in its nature,
but then they see their President as one of their own kind.
One of the pro-war "supporters" turned up at the anti-Cindy
Sheehan camp with a placard that said "How to wreck your family
in 30 days by bitch in the ditch Cindy Sheehan". To the credit
of Kristinn Taylor, an event organizer with FreeRepublic.com, he approached
the man and said "This is our rally and you can't do that here".
But this is a good example of some of the "extreme" types
that follow Bush around. Some of the other protestors called the man
an "Idiot", but quite a few wanted to shake his hand!
You then have sites like "The Conservative Voice" whose
views go way over the top and almost certainly do not represent the
voice of real Conservatives (they even have a special page for hate
mail!). Will we see some Conservatives in the future protesting with
signs that say "You don't speak for me"? But who do they
speak for? Judging by all the Bush propaganda on ther site, we can
probably guess who pulls their strings.
It
was the Conservative Voice who supported Pat Robertson after he said
that the U.S. should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
They wrote an article quoting "Free Speech" and saying that
Pat Robertson should be allowed to give his views. We agree that people
should be allowed to do that, but suggesting that someone should be
killed is stretching that point a little too far! Of course their
support of Robertson would have nothing to do with the fact that he
gave their founder, Nathan Tabor, support when he ran for Congress
in 2004. As for "Free Speech", isn't that what Cindy Sheehan
is doing? Or is this a luxury reserved only for Bush supporters and
people that go on TV and ask for people to be murdered?
Bush was quoted as saying that Cindy Sheehan was "unrepresentative"
of most of the military families he had met. This gives the impression
that Cindy Sheehan is one of a handful that oppose the war, but when
you discover that he has only met less than 100 military families,
the statement means nothing. And even Bush admits that "most"
(but not all) of the few he has seen supported his views.
So Bush wants us to believe that just because 60-70 "military"
families that he has met (out of the 140,000 troops in Iraq and their
families) approve of what he is doing, this represents the views of
the millions of others in the U.S. Who is he trying to fool?
