Arnold Schwarzenegger looking to
"terminate" same-sex marriage bill
(08.09.2005)
It seems almost certain that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will veto
a same-sex marriage bill that would allow gay marriage in California.
The move is seen as a way to strengthen Republican support, which
he has seen slipping recently. At the moment his popularity is such,
that more than 50% of the voters would not re-elect him (if an election
were to be called today).
The argument over same-sex marriages is a little puzzling. Many
argue that marriage should only be between a man and a woman, yet
the laws do not forbid a couple of the same sex having a relationship
and living together.
Perhaps there is some "religious"confusion over what
is right and wrong? We can understand religious people objecting to
a same-sex "church" marriage, but where is the harm in allowing
a same-sex couple to make their relationship more legal, if it is
not carried out in a church (unless of course the church agrees to
this).
Homosexuality
has existed from the beginning of time, yet even in today's modern
society, there are still many people who do not understand it and
their fear of it continues to prejudice the minds of others. Strangely
enough, many of those who reject homosexuality the most, are often
gay themselves.
We are not of course suggesting that Arnold Schwarzenegger is
gay, but according to some rumours, there is a certain person in much
higher office who is known to swing both ways?
