Prince Charles - Chill Out and
sing to the seals
(12.09.2005)
Prince
Charles appeared on BBC's "Songs of Praise" programme and
encouraged people to slow down.
"The aim seems to be to go ever faster but I often wonder,
how much faster can we all go?" Prince Charles said.
He added "I just think we need to remember we are a part
of nature and not apart from it, which I think has been one of the
great problems of the twentieth century...I think it's terribly important
for any human being to have a time for silence, and for things to
slow down just a bit. It's a balance, it seems to me, we have to try
and find"
We would agree with the Prince that Society does move too quickly
and we spend too much of our time trying to survive to notice the
finer things in life.
Unfortunately, he is likely to receive some stick for admitting
that he used to sing to seals as a child with his grandmother (the
late Queen Mother). "And my grandmother, I've never forgotten,
when we were small my sister and I, she used to take us down, stand
on the cliff there and we'd sing to the seals" he said.
He
described the event as "absolutely riveting" as he and his
sister would sing "'Over the Sea to Skye" and watch the
seals heads "bob up and they'd start coming closer"
Although he was singing and not talking to the seals, many might
be tempted to write headlines that include "Dr. Dolittle"
in them.
It is nice of him to share his childhood memories with us, but,
singing to seals?
