David Beckham's son returns to
hospital after more convulsions England football captain, David Beckham, was forced to miss training yesterday so that he could be with his son (Romeo), who was taken to hospital for the second time in a week suffering with convulsions. Romeo was released from hospital after tests and is resting at home. He appeared to suffer from the same problem in July and was taken to a hospital near the family's home in Hertfordshire. There has been no mention of what may have caused the convulsions, but a virus called roseola infantum may be a possibility. This usually produces an acute fever and skin rash (that is highly contagious) and affects children aged six months to three years. A child can develop a high fever very suddenly (39.5° - 40.5°) for which there seems no obvious cause and this can last for about 3-5 days. The rash often appears as the fever subsides. Treatment is usually designed to reduce the fever and keep the child cool. The cause of roseola infantum is thought to be caused by human herpes virus type 6 (hhv-6), but there could be other causes. England coach, Sven-Goran Eriksson is hopeful that his son's problems will not affect England's World Cup qualifying match on Saturday against Austria and said "he will be on the training pitch on Thursday morning"
