President Putin Assassination plot in Iran
October 15, 2007

According to Russian Security Services, a plot to assassinate President Vladimir Putin, while he is on a trip to Iran, has been uncovered. Apparently, the attempt (if genuine) will be made by suicide bombers.

As most people know, President Putin has a good relationship with Iran and is one of the few world leaders who offer any support to this country, so it is unlikely that the Iranian authorities would be behind any such plot. However, that does not rule out some "mercenary" group that might have "outside" backing.

Of course, the alleged plot may be no more than a propaganda exercise created by some western government, designed to change the way Putin views Iran, but the Russian President is unlikely to fall for that. However, what if such an attempt was carried out and succeeded?

Obviously, if such an event did occur, we would have to ask ourselves who would benefit the most from the death of the Russian President? Not Iran, that's for sure, but who else sees Putin as a threat? Would we see headlines claiming that the Iranian's are a barbaric people who are prepared to kill their friends, and using this as yet another excuse to attack the country?

On Friday the US secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, made yet another visit to Moscow and once more lectured the Russian President on democracy and the Kremlin's "monopoly" on power in Russia. Does Rice truly believe what she is saying, or is she confusing the "monopoly on power" with her boss (George Bush)? Of the two leaders, which one has introduced more restrictions over the last 7 or so years, or invaded more countries to further their ambitions?

President Putin is more diplomatic than I could ever be, but if I was in his position, I wouldn't even bother having discussions with Bush or the administration, and I certainly wouldn't allow Rice into Russia so that she can criticize the way it is run and talk to so called "human rights activists" while her own country fails to follow the same standards. Rice is supposed to be some "expert" on Russia, but she seems to have obtained her knowledge from a James Bond book!

The Russian President has been informed of the "plot", but I'm sure he will continue his visit to Iran as planned.
