7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Papua
New Guinea - No Tsunami expected A major earthquake hit the region of New Ireland, northeast of Papua New Guinea today, measuring a magnitude of 7.7. There have been no reports of any injuries, but the quake happened at a depth of just over 90 km. Although the region has experienced tsunami's before, there seems to be no danger of one on this occasion. Some 13 hours earlier, in the neighbouring region of Kepulauan Babar, Indonesia, there was another earthquake at a similar depth. However, this only registered a magnitude of 4.6. There have been a number of Earthquakes in the last 24 hours or so in places like Romania, Central California, Fox Islands, Russia, offshore Mexico, the Greater Los Angeles area, Santa Cruz Islands and a magnitude 6.0 earthquake in San Juan, Argentina. We have been publishing a number of articles recently that may explain why we are seeing so many earthquakes recently. These could grow in number and magnitude, along with an increase in volcanic activity. You can obtain more information on this by reading our article Global Warming - The real cause and effect!
