George Bush Press conference -
"I don't know" Abramoff and my spying is "legally right"
Of course you don't George. Hey! Did your nose just get a little bigger then? How can anyone possibly suggest that the President could meet
with a "guy" who has pleaded guilty to federal corruption
charges? And of course senior White House staff have made no contracts
with him, what ever makes you think the Bush government would ever
do anything illegal. Accepting "gifts" travel and campaign contributions to lawmakers, mostly Republicans, isn't illegal is it? Bush gave the impression that there was probably only one photograph
of him with Abramoff, but it seems that others exist. Naturally, Bush
said he would not release these photos saying "mindful that we
live in a world in which those pictures will be used for pure Of course, as soon as his rivals find yet more dirt on this "dirty"
president, he comes out with the usual line calling on members of
both parties to "set aside the partisanship that inevitably will
come with an election year and get some stuff done". As usual
it's "let's work together" when the heat is on him, but
a different story when he has his rivals by the throat! As for the "spying" issue, he responded to a reporters question (about why he felt a need to "circumvent" the law) by saying "Circumventing is aloaded word. And I refuse to accept it because I believe what I'm doing is legally right" and added "I am upholding my duty and at the same time doing so under the law and with the Constitution behind me". It's interesting to note that he said he "believes"
what he is doing is legally right, doesn't he know for sure? And he
has the Constitution behind You have to admire the people who got this person voted in as president (twice!), people like that could sell sand to the Arabs. But maybe the customers who bought it are the kind of people who will buy anything wrapped up in an American flag and told it's patriotic?
